The GreenScreen assay uses commercially available microplate readers for GreenScreen HC (human cells) and GreenScreen GC (yeast cells). Measurements are made of fluorescence which is proportional to GFP induction and thus genotoxicity, and optical absorbance which is proportional to cell density and thus cytotoxicity.
The GreenScreen HC S9 assay utilises a flow cytometer for data collection. It is more convenient to process samples in a flow cytometer that has the facility to sample directly from 96 well microplates, else samples can be transferred to microtubes.
The BlueScreen HC assay uses flash luminescence. A microplate reader is required which has facility to read luminescence, fluorescence and optical absorbance. The microplate reader also requires facility to inject reagent solutions (coelenterazine).
